The Copper River Watershed Project is celebrating it’s 25th Anniversary
In the Copper River Watershed Project’s early years, there was a collaborative effort between the founding members of CRWP and a Netherlands-based Artists for Nature Foundation to bring twenty-two artists to Cordova to visit the largest wetland on the Pacific Coast of North America, the Copper River Delta and to create works of art inspired by the landscape and wildlife. The result was an exhibition of art and the book “Alaska’s Copper River Delta” to advocate for the sustainable use of resources in the region.
25 years later, CRWP is still here and continues to advocate for salmon and a barrier-free watershed. As a product of this artistic inspiration highlighting the region, we have been able to:
*Add 56 km of new streams to the Anadromous Waters Catalog (AWC)
*Add 68 ha of new lake and wetland habitat to the AWC
*Add 60 km of additional data for new streams
*Restore over 85 miles of upstream habitat for salmon by removing fish barriers associated with road crossings
AND MORE*
To celebrate our 25th anniversary, we are hosting an Artists for Nature Gala and Art Auction on September 2nd in Cordova, Alaska to raise $25,000 to jump-start our next 25 years.
Tickets are $65 and can be purchased on our website.
Hearty appetizers prepared by a Seattle chef, oysters, champagne, wine and dessert provided.
Cheers to another 25 years of CRWP and working towards a barrier-free Copper River watershed. We look forward to celebrating with our incredible CRWP supporters.
