Red Cross and Cordova Prepared are hosting a Psychological First Aid course Monday, May 22nd at the Cordova Center in the Education Room from 1pm to 5pm. This course is at no cost to attendees and is open to any community member who would like to join. Psychological First Aid teaches participants response strategies to reduce stress symptoms and assist in a healthy recovery of other individuals following a traumatic event, natural disaster public health emergency or personal crisis. It focuses on contact and engagement, stabilization, information gathering, practical assistance, connections, coping and linkage to collaborative services.
Psychological First Aid can help everyone – children, adolescents, adults, elders, families who may have been exposed to trauma or an emergency incident. The goal in hosting this course is to broaden individual education and awareness on how to offer support in the form of psychological first aid to those who may need it within our community whether that be in the home, at work, as volunteers, in our faith based communities or as responders.
