Red Cross and Cordova Prepared is hosting a Shelter Management course May 23rd – 25th from 9am to 4pm at the Cordova Center in the Education Room. We are looking for individuals within the community that would be willing to learn this process in support of helping us both build our City Emergency Shelter Team and help others who may operate heavily staffed or congregate settings learn this process. This course is held at no cost to attendees and all community members 18 and older are welcome to register.
Shelter Management teaches us how to support groups of individuals in a congregate setting during small or large emergencies where staying at home may not be an option. You will learn how to register and track people as they come and go, how to set up accommodations in dormitory spaces, what supplies you may need to prepare and have on hand for such an occasion and what outside resources and contacts might be necessary.
In addition information we will go over the City of Cordova Emergency Shelter plans including predesignated shelter locations, supply storage areas and notification processes. Time will be spent walking through a designated City shelter and going over what is kept in pre packed shelter totes.
If you are interested in attending please email emc@cityofcordova.net or call 907 831 1928.
