A defining characteristic of Cordova is its link to the land and, in turn, its flavor-filled food. In our own kitchens, we often prepare food we harvested ourselves, and we enjoy the efforts. We fish, pick berries, smoke salmon, hunt mushrooms and wild game.
But we still enjoy going out for a bite. From dogsled driving pizzaiolos to sun (and oftentimes rain) soaked decks to a dinner at the big red bus, Cordova eateries have been known to leave you with a full belly and a good story. Download the Dining Guide below for a full listing of everywhere to eat and drink in town, complete with map location and hours of operation.
Why not support a good cause and get a great meal too? These once-a-year events mark highlights in the gastronomical calendar for this salmon-rich community.
- Copper River Nouveau – Certainly Cordova’s most elegant affair, join some of the regions fanciest ladies and dandiest gents at Prince William Sound Science Center’s annual gala supporting their research and education programs. Featuring a guest chef from one of the state’s finer eateries and an open bar, the event is usually held in early June.
- Copper River Salmon Jam – Cordovans know how to harvest and they know how to cook! This is especially handy the two days in every July that are full of live music, food and beer; during Copper River Salmon Jam. This event supports the arts in Cordova via local nonprofit Cordova Arts & Pageants. The weekend festival also includes running events and free kids’ activities, but the foodies out there will probably be most interested in Taste of Cordova, the salmon and wild food cook off, and the Alaska Salmon Runs dinner.
- Wild Harvest Feast – The culmination of Cordova’s favorite fall festivity, Cordova Fungus Festival, this dinner fundraiser supports the habitat restoration and conservation efforts of local nonprofit, Copper River Watershed Project. The five course meal includes wine and beer and features a visiting chef highlighting Copper River Coho salmon.
- Old Time Downtown 4th of July – A free Copper River Salmon BBQ for the whole town complete with pie social, square dance and a kelp-box derby car race! No official “cause” to support here, but if you’re looking to fill your feel-good tank, be a good sport and bring a potluck side dish!
